Just back from the first leg of the tour where I was working with the Radical Wales crew at the Green Gathering in Chepstow. It was a good opportunity to catch up with assorted miscreants past, present and future, have a good sing-song, sink a few ales and take in some erm…greenery.
The festival is trying to get back on its feet after some problems with licensing which at the time was seen as an attempt by the authorities to clamp down on something they saw as far too radical for their liking. What I liked about it was that it always had an edge to it that made it a lot more than a space for pie-in-the-sky hippies. Not that that’s a bad thing in itself, mind 😉
There is a balance between workshops, practical skills and music that makes the GG stand out. There is quite a diverse range of people and opinions there too. I helped out with the open mic, where the great, the grim and various combinations thereof always guaranteed a top evening’s entertainment with a twist of festival insanity. Nice work one and all! I was so glad I went because for ages I’d been moping around wondering what the point was and felt like I was reaching out in hope even though I wasn’t sure I’d find any. But I did. Loads.
The tour continues in the Netherlands on Thursday. Look forward to seeing some of you there.
