It’s kind of hard getting started in the new year, right? Blerghhh……
I’ve mostly been hibernating and trying to get this website sorted. This is the new-look, slimline, off-the-back-of-a-lorry version. It should be easier to use and it will work on your mobile phone too. Have a look around and enjoy. If you’re feeling energetic, you can find out how to organise me a show in your town. Go on, you know you want to!
There are two or three very exciting things to announce in the next few weeks, so stay tuned. After that, I’ll be off for a jaunt around the Netherlands and Germany with the Merry Looters and James “Bar” Bowen – very looking forward!
Living in a country controlled by an wealthy and parasitic elite, it can be hard sometimes finding good news. But a couple of stories have caught my eye recently.
The first is that the Bevy, which aims to be the first co-operatively run pub on a UK council estate, has finally got the funding it needs to happen. The idea is to turn a disused pub between Moolsecoomb and Bevendean estates in Brighton into so much more than just a boozer. It’ll have a cafe, community gardens, and be a place to work, study and more – all run as a not-for-profit hub by the community, for the community. Residents have been working hard for years to make it reality, so many congratulations there. I’d like it to become my venue of choice to play in Brighton, if only to wind up the Bevy committee chair Warren. He thought he’d heard the last of my songs when I was run out of town years ago! 😉 Read all about the Bevy here.
The second bit of good news is that although the war machine is coming to Newport, south Wales in the shape of NATO this September, many of us concerned locals have set up a campaign to stop them. There are meetings and fundraisers happening as we speak, and you can follow the campaign on Twitter here. To find out more about why you should be concerned about NATO, read this.
I’m feeling what us old hippies call good vibes about this year, so look forward to seeing you all at a gig, a protest, or just bimbling on down the road somewhere…. Laters for now.
