I Could Play You A Million Love Songs (But You’re Only Gonna Get This One)

March 8, 2011 by cosmoakacitizensmith

It’s International Women’s Day! Here’s a track about two women who fall in love, start a band and confront the bullshit of the music industry head on.

Or is that totally gay? Going out to all me sisters, especially the ones causing mischief…;-)

Suzie was sitting on the school steps
Playing the electric guitar
She was trying to work out how the riff goes
In Love Will Tear Us Apart
Jenny says ‘I know the bass line!”
Suze says “Aint you a one?
I could play you a million love songs
But you’re only gonna get this one.”

Better looking than Peter Hookie
Jenny she played bass pretty well
In the smoke-filled garage every Saturday
The pair of them would raise up hell
Then one day Suzie popped the question
Jen smiled and the deed was done
“I could play you a million love songs
but you’re only gonna get this one…”

Ali on the drums made the line up
They took off round the clubs and bars
Romance and rock and rolling
For the girls up front with guitars
Cheeky sniffs in the bogs and
Stealing snogs on the sly
The boys wouldn’t get a look in
And didn’t know why

The record companies came a-running
Showered them with freebies and stuff
“We can market your revolution
But we need to see titties and muff,
You’ll drive those lover boys crazy!”
The girls said, “Not so fast, my son.
We could play you a million love songs
But you’re only gonna get this one!”

They launched into it at the showcase
The band and fans kicked right off
“Bollocks to your sexist bullshit,
And while we’re at it,” Suzie said, “just fuck off!”
The record boys and media scrum stopped
The band laughed when the deed was done
“We could play you a million love songs
But you’re only gone get this one!”

And though it seemed like the other day
It’s funny how time just slips away
When they split Jenny took it so badly
Suzie got a man and started a family
And though it took a little while
They can look back now and smile
But Jen says, “Suze, though it was sublime
You were right first time…”
