Life is not a festival 6

That night I drag my busking amp up to a fire and do some tunes. The place is awash with spontaneous music. You can start playing to a few people and suddenly there are loads of people listening, drinking, laughing, even joining in with their own instruments.

The next day I go up again with just my guitar and jam some tunes with some random people. Bluegrass, skank and rhymes all mix together in a fierce session.

The guy on the guitar is Dave aka DiscoDaveDaRave from my old band Flannel. He’s with a bluegrass outfit called Chicken Shed Zeppelin. More of them in a bit.

This is not like a “conventional” festival like Reading or Glastonbury. There is no “main stage” or “star attraction.” Everyone here has something to offer, whether it’s poems, music, organisational skills, technical nous or whatever. It’s no big deal. And it’s the whole point as well. In the future there will be no stars. Just people. Doing their thing. So in effect we’ll all be stars.
