The photo above is from Indymedia. It’s from the Naming of the Dead demonstration that happened in London on April 6th 2006.
Judging from some of the comments in the blogshere, I’m going to have to explain this REALLY slowly as some people are obviously a bit twp.
The government is clamping down on civil liberties. OK? This demo happened in defiance of the new Serious Crime and Organised Police Act which makes it illegal to demonstrate within a mile of Parliament without permission. OK? The demo involved naming the Iraqi people who have died in the war, because no matter what you think about it and our governments’ new laws, people die in wars. OK?
There! Not that difficult, is it?
You can read about the demo on Indymedia here.
Where the fuck was I?
I hate to bring this up again, but due to my hang-ups from being the son of an Eastern European migrant whose father remembered Jews getting rounded up, I think I can safely say that when our government says we should lock up foreigners for their own good, we really are fucking up in a major way.
Check out the demands of the detainees here. The conditions they describe are a sickening endictment on our society and everything we think we stand for.
How many times is it possible to be ashamed like this in one lifetime? Where the fuck was I?
Where the fuck were YOU?
